Aakash (Ritesh Deshmukh) is a young man who lives in Bihar with his mom (Nafisa Ali). Mom is always worried about Aakash’s future and wants him to get married to beautiful Bollywood actress, Govinda. She had an affair with him many years ago. This creates problems for the mother-son duo when they find out Govinda has a girlfriend named Ruksati alias Rani Mukherjee. Ruksati (Rani Mukherji) is a young doctor who lives in New Delhi. She likes her cousin Abhay (Arunoday Singh) and also his friend Praveen (Kunaal Roy Kapoor), both of whom want to marry her. Meanwhile, Aakash comes to meet Ruksati at her house when he sees her for the first time. Later when Aakash comes to Delhi for a business trip, she meets him through Rani’s friend, Ranima. The two fall in love with each other without seeing each other’s face. They decide to get married when they meet in front of their parents. Aakash’s mom, however, is against the marriage as Govinda is the only man she will ever love and she wants him to marry her. In order to get her son married to Govinda, they decide to make him fall in love with Ruksati. Ruksati manages to make Aakash fall in love with her without seeing her. Ruksati’s sister Madhu (Swara Bhaskar) falls in love with Aakash. When Madhu meets Ruksati for the first time, he asks Ruksati if she was the girl who has captured his heart by seeing her eyes like a deer. Ruksati says no. Aakash mistakes Madhu as the girl whom he had captured his heart, but it’s actually Ruksati. Eventually, Ruksati reveals to Aakash that she is the girl whom he fell in love with as soon as he saw her eyes like a deer and she was the same person who had fallen in love with him. The two get married and they all live happily ever after. Director Luv Ranjan said that "Pyaar Ka Punchnama" is based on his experiences of meeting girls instantly falling for him after seeing him only once. He said that he had been to Rohtak from Delhi for a party and Nikita Dutta, the second lead actress of the film, was also there. According to him, she saw him and started liking him. He further said that after a few days he got a message from a girl who told him that she liked his eyes and wanted to marry him. Ranjan stated that "When I was in school there were few girls I liked, but after seeing me they did not like me anymore". Ranjan set out to make a film on how crushes work in real life.
