Chinese spies reportedly inserted chips into servers belonging to Apple, Amazon: The truth behind th

China secretly inserted surveillance microchips into servers used by major technology companies, including Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc., in an audacious military operation likely to further inflame trade tensions between the United States and its leading source of electronics components and products, Bloomberg Businessweek reported Thursday morning.

The probe has been active for over three years and investigators believe that the chips have been inserted to let the attackers get an entry to any network that is connected to the servers. This attack is a lot more serious and severe than other software-based attacks identified so far considering that hardware attacks are quite difficult to identify immediately, and by the time these are, a lot of information has been leaked. Spy agencies are the most important beneficiaries of such campaigns and are keen on investing into such a campaign.

More over the original server motherboards are designed by an American company Super Micro. However, the malicious chips had been inserted during the manufacturing processes in China. According to the report, the chips were founded in servers used by U.S. military, intelligence agencies, and tech companies including Apple and Amazon. -spies-on-the-u-s-companies-using-tiny-chips/ Can you imageine? This is another source of this case. Bloomberg also notes that Apple and Amazon have detected chips on the servers motherboards back in 2015. The incident was reported to the U.S. authorities. However, the companies deny the claims.

Server maker Supermicro, based in Fremont, California, is reportedly moving production out of China over customer concerns that the Chinese government had secretly inserted chips for spying into its motherboards.

The Chinese military surreptitiously inserted tiny microchips no larger than single grains of rice into servers on local assembly lines in order to gain access to data networks run by U.S. government agencies ranging from the Department of Defense to the Central Intelligence Agency, according to an explosive investigation from Bloomberg.

A bombshell report claims that China has been developing a massive spying operation for a few years that involved building hardware backdoors into critical server components with the help of microchips no bigger than a grain of rice or the tip of a sharpened pencil. Those chips, once placed on motherboards that go into popular servers, would be able to help Chinese spies access information that would otherwise be unavailable to them. 2ff7e9595c
